About Jennifer Scott  

Jennifer Scott was admitted to the B.C. Bar in 1999.  Her practice focuses on labour relations, human rights and employment law. Jennifer represents federal and provincial clients (both union and non-union) at various administrative tribunals and proceedings such as labour arbitrations, Labour Relations Board hearings and employment standards investigations. She has acted on behalf of clients in the Supreme Court of British Columbia and the British Columbia Court of Appeal. Jennifer also represents individuals in employment-related matters, such as wrongful dismissals and human rights complaints.
 
Jennifer drafts a variety of employment-related documents, such as: independent contractor agreements; confidentiality and non-competition agreements; workplace policies, such as harassment, privacy, e-mail and Internet policies and human resource manuals. In addition to providing employment law advice, Ms. Scott advises and assists employers with a variety of labour relations matters arising in the unionized workplace, including Labour Relations Board hearings, collective agreement interpretation, collective bargaining, grievance administration, arbitrations and strike contingency plans. Her experience includes pension and benefits, privacy issues, employment standards, workers'’ compensation, human rights, disability matters, absenteeism, discipline, dismissals, layoffs, certification drives and decertifications. She has also assisted employers with workplace investigations and in obtaining picketing injunctions.
 
In addition, Ms. Scott is a regular speaker and author regarding labour relations, employment and human rights issues. She has also been a guest lecturer at the University of British Columbia Entertainment Law class. Jennifer is an active member of the Human Resources Management Association, the PeopleTalk editorial advisory group and the Downtown Networking Association. She is also a member of the Canadian Bar Association, Labour Relations, Employment, Human Rights, and Women's Lawyers Forum subsections, and volunteer mentor at the Faculty of Law at the University of British Columbia.
 
In 1998, Jennifer received an LLB from the University of Western Ontario and also became a Certified Mediator in Ontario. Prior to that, she received a BA and Certificate of Liberal Arts from Simon Fraser University in 1995. A wine aficionado, she is currently enjoying taking her level 1 Sommelier course. In her spare time, Jennifer enjoys teaching and playing Texas Hold'em poker, skiing, sailing and travelling (who doesn't?). She is also trying to refine her tennis and golf skills (they need a lot of refinement).
